Royal Gifts The State Rooms, Buckingham Palace

Exquisite gifts given to the Queen since her coronation are this summer’s draw to Buckingham Palace from 22 July. Usually spread across Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh, Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace, many of these treasures have never been on public display. There’s the brightly beaded Yoruba throne from Nigeria, say, fine enamelled 15th century Chinese modal ship and Caribbean mahogany carvings. “We’ve had major gift moments like the 2012 Olympics and the Queen’s birthday,” said curator, Sally Goodsir, “so it was a good opportunity to show locally handcrafted gifts from as many countries as possible.”
