The UK’s largest light festival will be returning to light up the streets of Durham, for the fifth time since it’s inception in 2009, from 16 – 19 November 2017.
Taking place over two cities, Lumiere festival has developed from a local project to a national one. Lumiere Durham attracted an estimated 200,000 visitors and generating £9.6m for the local economy in 2015. Due to its immense popularity 2016 saw the debut of Lumiere London, where an estimated 1.3 million people braved the cold January nights. Lumiere London will be returning to the capital from January 18-23.
From a gigantic illuminated mobile over the River Wear, to an illuminated field of flowers in the cathedral cloisters, a meditative paradise of birds in the Botanic Gardens and a winter wonderland in Durham’s Market Place the full programme of 29 installations has something for everyone to enjoy.
